When to Consult a Hand Care Professional?

Hand injury is not a rare occurrence, but many just do not get the correct advice on how to tend to their hand injuries. Hand injuries can become very serious if left untreated, and those who seek the right advice and follow it are usually well on their way to recovery. If the hand injury is more serious, it is crucial to seek professional help for damage control. Enlisted are some of the most common reasons you should visit a hand care professional.

1. Trigger finger:

This is a condition that arises from an injury or repetitive motion to the tendons and ligaments on the fingers. Trigger finger affects the middle and ring finger ranging from occasional tightness to being stuck in the contracted position. Sometimes trigger finger leads to needed surgery in order to release the trigger. If you don’t want surgery and would rather seek pain relievers, then it is best to consult a hand care professional. Find a treatment for trigger finger by consulting a hand care professional and find relief.

2. De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis:

This condition affects the hand, wrist, and fingers. It is the inflammation of the sheath covering the tendons. The cause of De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis is repeated stress placed on tendons due to overuse, which results in the swelling of the tendons. Another cause of De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis is the infection of the tendons. Irritation of the tendons as a result of frequent use of your hands is caused by the inflammation of the sheath or tenosynovium covering the tendons.

3. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

This syndrome is caused by damage or compression to the median nerve that passes through the hands. The symptoms that come with carpal tunnel syndrome include numbness, tingling, burning, and pain in the fingers or the forearm. This condition can bother you in day-to-day activities and affect your job performance. If you have noticed excessive swelling of the thumb, pain, or tingling, it is best to consult with hand care professional.

4. Gout:

Gout mainly exists in men who abuse alcohol or who are middle-aged and older. Consuming a high protein diet is also a cause of gout. Gout is characterized by moderate to severe pain in the joints of the big toe, and swelling and redness will occur in the joint. The usual cause of gout is uric acid deposits that form a crystal, so get the right treatment.

5. Burns:

These are uncommon to find on hands but can occur from accidents involving cooking and small children playing with fire. If you notice a burn, you need to flush it with clear water to stop it from progressing. Cover the area with a clean dressing and seek medical help.

Conclusion:

Remember, most hand injuries do not require medical attention. There are other things you can do to help your hand heal. The first step is to rest your hand. Then seek the right advice from a hand care professional you will have your hand healed in no time!
