A Moving Home Checklist

Moving home can be stressful and chaotic. There are all kinds of big and small tasks that need to be completed, plus the process of moving all of your important possessions can cause a great deal of stress. On top of all this, moving can also be emotional, especially if it is a long-distance move. Therefore, it is helpful to be aware of a moving checklist to stay on track and complete everything that needs to be completed at the right time. This post will provide a moving checklist that will simplify the move and help you get settled quickly.

Notify Relevant Parties

Once you have confirmed the move and have a date, you can start to notify relevant parties and give them your new address. There are many businesses, organizations, and individuals you will need to notify, such as:

  • Landlord/real estate agent
  • Post office
  • Bank
  • Subscriptions/memberships
  • Utility companies
  • Friends and family

Book Removals

Researching and booking a removal company as far in advance as possible is a good idea. These companies get booked up long in advance, especially on weekends. You want to find an experienced removal company that will simplify the process of moving your possessions – this will reduce stress and free up time to focus on other areas.

Set Up Internet

Another important step to take before moving is getting your internet set up. You do not want to move into your new home and not have any internet as this would make it hard to get settled and relax after a stressful day. This is why you need to research internet providers in your new area and find a suitable plan. You can find Connecticut fiber internet providers that offer high-speed fiber broadband with no data caps or usage restrictions. If possible, arrange for installation on the day you move in or the day before so that you can get online immediately.

Declutter

Moving is a great opportunity to declutter and eliminate what you do not need. You should declutter the home and sell, donate, recycle, or throw away unwanted possessions – this will reduce the number of items you need to pack and move.

Pack

Obviously, packing is one of the major tasks involved in moving home. You do not want to be in a huge rush to get everything packed the night before the move, so it is smart to start packing ahead of time. You can begin with the items you will not use before the move (usually items in storage) and then gradually work toward the daily-use items. Be sure to use high-quality packing materials and create an inventory so that you know exactly what is in each box – this will make unpacking much easier and prevent you from unknowingly losing items during the move.

These are the main tasks that must be completed before the big move. Moving home will always be stressful, but by focusing on these areas, you will be on top of the main tasks and simplify the moving process.
